So sorry to hear about this ... had seen it in the news. Scary for any parent would young adults travelling. Disproportionate response from US authorities for sure. Some criminals get locked up for less time. 'Every parent's worst nightmare' - too many of those!

Criminals have to be charged or released. She's had neither!

Unbelievable, Jenny. What a nightmare for Becky. Shared earlier and thought I’d already commented, but lost it in the ether, so popped back!

That's absolutely horrific. She's obviously not a threat to their security so why not let her come home.

It's absolutely senseless. And it's costing them money to keep her there.

Poor Becky such a traumatic experience!

We also have friends whose son a student at St Andrews was firstly interrogated by immigration officers, had his phone and computer hacked and after long hours in a cell was deported back to France from Scotland because his settled status had been denied… Since then he has ‘locked’ himself in his parents house and refuses to go anywhere. He says he has no future as it’s has been ruined by the authorities.

This has had a devastating impact on his mental health as he felt totally violated.

I can't imagine what it must be like to go through this - both in the short and the long term.
