In order of importance - welcome back to the wonderful Becky, whom I met and interacted with on two occasions - enough to judge her kind, thoughtful personality and intelligence. I am sorry, Becky, you should never have experienced this horror, you shouldn't... But, being the kind and intelligent person you are, I know you will process it positively and turn it into a meaningful piece of art, one that will speak to many and one that I can't wait to see.

Hmmm money negotiation - a cringe worthy topic it is! I was offered a senior lecturer post last week, on a pay spine that was frankly underwhelming. The energy it took me to write to the head of school exposing my value, attributes, experience and passion for teaching in order to climb up a few spines on my grade..
now that was exhausting! And then the waiting game - a torture! A happy outcome in the end - or is it?! I achieved my desired spine at some cost.
Do men negotiate differently? Do negotiating techniques vary by ethnicity or nationality? They most certainly would if a loved one's life/wellbeing gets caught up in the barter. My Friday brain is too weak to handle this discussion. But maybe come Sunday, I will be talking to my daughter advising her to avoid proximity to the Gulf of Aden at all cost, ever!
Congratulations on the new gig. I do think men might find pay negotiations easier because they are less likely to have been socialised to be people-pleasers. I have tried to channel male energy in pay negotiations but I either (a) worry this makes me seem dislikable to people I want to work with or (b) worry they want me to worry about this so they can pay me less....
